Rosetta Stone, A Paramnesium *
Rosetta Stone is a web comic by author, artist and animator Rebecca Migdal.
CURRENT PUBLISHING SCHEDULE:
Currently Zombie Punk is going up on Fridays, and Cock Robin’s Wedding or Rosetta Stone on Sundays. Stay “tooned” for a new piece on the Island of Nauru, the that’s part of the Yes Men series, for the next issue of World War 3 Illustrated.
The Stories (read more details on the stories’ archive pages):
Three intertwining plot lines comprise an epic tale of love, death and eternity: “Rosetta Stone”, an unreliable memoir of the haunting of an artist, “Zombie Punk”, being the story of the life, death and afterlife of Nurdt Nobrain, and “Cock Robin’s Wedding”, a tale of the collective unconscious, in which the fertility god is obsessed by the one woman he can never have.
The “Yippee Skippy Puppet Theater” section features short stories and gags. Many of these have been previously published in the social justice oriented anthology, “World War 3 Illustrated“.
“The Spoonworms” is a series about three young, male invertebrates in search of mates, floating in the briny deep. They’re “Born To Be Krill”, so the only way to avoid being eaten is by finding a gigantic, penis-like, burrowing female to swim up inside of, permanently attach to and contribute sperm… and ANY female will do! “The Spoonworms” is based on an actual sea creature and was originally published in SoundViews Magazine.
“The Yes Men Comic”, features the notorious Yes Men , artist activists who correct the indentities of dastardly corporations and organizations, by perpetrating outrageous hoaxes. Gold lamé is involved whenever possible.
“Ear Fetish” is the tale of a New York City squat. It’s a sexy, adult world where everyone has a band, and a few kinks– and all the denizens of the building share the same dream– sometimes literally.
Each story is also (eventually) published as a series of animated video readings with original music. Eight times a year the installments will be compiled and made available in print form. You can purchase books, DVD’s, Rosetta tee shirts, etc. at the Online Shop.
“In Rosetta Stone I set out to create a surrealistic memoir that explores the nature of Love in all its ambiguity and transformational power. Threads of the story are gothic and erotic, tragic and funny. I don’t shy away from sexual material as I follow my characters through the complex human dance of compassion, frustration and desire. But I hope my readers will ultimately take away something more than a frisson of arousal. The images, stories and characters that I like best are the haunting ones, the ones that stay with me, make me ponder and fantasize, enter into my dreams. I wish for nothing less than to haunt my readers in this way.”
Rebecca Migdal, July 4th 2010

*Paramnesium is coined word for a memoir that confuses memory with fantasy.
