Gonzo Tours

Gonzo Comix and Tours is a company that attacks poverty and injustice by operating group tours that bring political cartoonists, their students, and the general public to meet residents of troubled communities. We document the lives of indigenous people and produce informational comics books and graphic novels suitable for indigenous classroom use and general retail distribution in the developed world. We target our group-travel dollars to locally-owned businesses, and donate profits to the establishment of scholarship funds for girls.

Gonzo Comix and Tours’ specific initial goal is to improve the quality of life for Mayan women. To achieve this goal we have identified the key objective of helping bring financial success to Mayan families. Therefore Gonzo Comix and Tours will first launch a socially responsible tourism and publishing venture that centers on the international-award-winning, collectively owned and operated Toledo Ecotourism Association in Southern Belize. There, Mayan families teach, lodge and feed tourists, as well as performing music and selling handicrafts. We will facilitate opportunities for our artist and tourist clients to interview members of Mayan families for the purpose of developing comics for publication. Gonzo Comix will print these comics or post them on our interactive website. Our books will be distributed in the U.S. and Belize.
